Senior Student Gaylene McCaw wins Second Place at Australian Academy of Design’s Academy of Fashion 2009 Awards

It was at a workshop I received a referral to the Elizabeth Bence School of Fashion by the Workshop Leader. After looking at the web site I became excited. The couture qualifications and experience of the School Principal are impressive, and the emphasis on quality and European techniques of fit and style are exactly what I was looking for. I rang the school and started the following Tuesday and have been attending for almost 3 years.  

While my interest is largely in a businesses that I operate,  the possibility of careers in Design, Illustration, Couture Fashion, Pattern Making, Manufacturing, Merchandising, and Store Buying have all opened up to me.  I have found an unexpected love of fashion drawing, a specialty of the Elizabeth Bence School of Fashion.

I had never had a drawing lesson before attending the school was thrilled to recently win second prize in the Academy of Fashion 2009 Awards. That proves that anybody can be taught these amazing techniques.  

I have also found a love for draping, which is part of the advanced section of my course. Draping is the art of applying fabric to the body or a dress form to design a garment. It is how the most intricate and beautiful designs are achieved in couture work. While I am still at the basic level I am really looking forward to this part of my course.

I am extremely enthusiastic about my future career in fashion thanks to the expertise offered at the school. I am receiving a first class education at the The Elizabeth Bence School of Fashion. The teachers foster and encourage my abilities, and are understanding and flexible with my timetable, for which I am grateful. I am truly looking forward to the next stage of life and my new career possibilities.

My time at the Elizabeth Bence School of Fashion was an amazing experience. I enjoyed every aspect of the course.

Mrs Elizabeth Bence is an amazing teacher; dedicated, talented and undoubtedly inspirational.  She has so much to offer her students. Her enthusiasm in sharing her knowledge has always encouraged me not to settle for less but to continue to strive to improve myself. I have gained skills in many areas, which I am certain will open many doors for me. I am excited to explore my abilities and passion that I have for the field of fashion design and dress making.  I am confident that no other school would have given me one on one attention and timely help when I needed it...
