The courses

The Elizabeth Bence School of Fashion is a Registered Training Organisation with the NSW VETAB. We provide training and assessment services in the area of Fashion and Design.

Our national LMT06 Textile, Clothing and Footwear Training Package qualifications include:

  • LMT41006 Certificate IV in Applied Fashion Design & Technology (CRICOS Course No. 060964F) - 42 weeks
  • LMT50306 Diploma of Applied Fashion Design & Technology (CRICOS Course No. 060966D) – 84 weeks for new entrants or 42 weeks for those with competence in LMT41006 Certificate IV in Applied Fashion Design & Technology.
  • LMT60306 Advanced Diploma of Applied Fashion Design & Technology (CRICOS Course No. 060968B) – 105 weeks for new entrants or 21 weeks for those with competence in LMT50306 Diploma of Applied Fashion Design & Tech.

Course Timetable

The academic year is divided into two semesters of approximately 21 weeks each. Semester 1 commences the first week in February and concludes the last week in June. Semester 2 commences the first week in August and concludes the week prior to Christmas. Our courses are conducted for 20 hours of formal tuition per week (9.00am to 2.00pm) for four days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday).

Work experience is optional and is undertaken during course breaks. Students are covered by the school's insurance whilst participating in work experience.

Support Services

Prior to enrolment and on enquiry you will be sent information about living in Australia, your attendance obligations and your course of study. On your first day at the school you will be welcomed by the Principal and staff and given an orientation to the school, information about the training delivery and assessment activities and an opportunity to have your questions answered.

Throughout the course you will be provided with feedback on the outcomes of your assessment tasks and advice on your progress.

The Principal and staff are available to discuss your concerns or problems and to offer support. Where the issue is beyond our area of expertise we will refer you to the appropriate agency. At all times we recognize the cultural diversity of our students, ensure equal treatment of our students, encourage full participation and assist our students to achieve the course outcomes, provide equal access to resources and refer our students with specific learning problems to appropriate agencies

Teaching methods and facilities

Our teaching methods include face-to-face instruction to small groups of students and one-to-one individual support , attention and assistance. All instruction is in English. The college is set-up as an authentic fashion design and couture dressmaking workplace with industry standard facilities which provide plenty of opportunity and ample space for you to practice and develop skills in fashion design, pattern making and garment construction.

Attendance Requirements

International students must attend on a fulltime basis. This means you must be in attendance at the college each day of the course and for a total of at least 20 hours per week. You must maintain a minimum of 80% attendance. Your attendance will be recorded daily. If you cannot attend a class you are required to notify the school in advance on 02 9498 7240. Students who are absent from class due to illness must provide a doctor's certificate. No consideration can be given to extended absences for any other reason and will be reported to the Department of Immigration & Multicultural & Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA).

Students must continue to actively participate in the learning and assessment activities to achieve competency in the Training Package qualification in which they are enrolled. Unsatisfactory progress will be reported to DIMIA. If a student is deemed Not Yet Competent in a unit of competency they may enroll part-time in their final semester to repeat this unit.

English Language

Our courses are conduct in English by qualified and experienced trainers who have years of experience in the national and international fashion design industry. If English is not your first language you need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency at IELTS level 5.5 or TOEFL level 550. Please include with your application for enrolment a certified statement of your results in the TOEFL or IELTS tests.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)/Recognition of Current Competency (RCC)

If you believe you already have the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate competency you can request RPL/RCC. It does not matter whether you acquired your skills and knowledge through formal learning, work experience and/or life experiences.

Where RPL is granted the Elizabeth Bence School of Fashion will provide, where possible, meaningful learning activities for the student for the duration of studies, ensuring a full-time 20 hr per week load. Where this is not possible DIMIA will be informed of the change in the duration of studies.
